Colposcopy is a medical procedure used to closely examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of disease, typically following an abnormal Pap smear or HPV test. During the procedure, a colposcope (a special magnifying instrument with a light) is used to visualize the area in detail. A vinegar or iodine solution may be applied to highlight abnormal cells. If suspicious areas are found, a biopsy (tissue sample) may be taken for further analysis. Colposcopy is a safe and minimally invasive procedure, often used for diagnosing cervical dysplasia, HPV-related changes, or other abnormalities in the genital area.
