Interview with Amely Grimmson, Fantasy Author

Marbella Times: Today, were thrilled to be speaking with Amely Grimmson, the author of the burgeoning fantasy series, The Chronicles of Mythnia. Thank you for joining us, Amely! Lets start at the beginningyour journey into writing fantasy is quite unique. Can you share how it all began?

Amely Grimmson: Thank you for having me! My journey into the world of fantasy writing was certainly unexpected. Ive always loved storytelling, but my career as a veterinarian kept me incredibly busy. It wasnt until my son, David, who was three at the time, started asking me to tell him stories before bed that things really changed. He didnt want me to read from a bookhe wanted me to create something new each night. Thats how our nightly tradition of Prince David stories began.

Marbella Times: Thats such a beautiful origin story. So, it all started with your sons bedtime routine. What was it about those early stories that led you to decide to write them down?

Amely Grimmson: It all stemmed from one particular story about an enchanted bread tree, which later became a central part of the series. In the story, the bread tree, once a symbol of life and magic, becomes poisoned by the evil wizard Podemos. This corruption turns what was once a source of nourishment into a deadly force. The trees fate takes a dark turn, and it becomes clear that it must be destroyed to save the kingdom. This challenging task falls to Prince David, his father, and the Knights, who must overcome great obstacles to protect their world. This story carried so much depth and emotion that I knew it had to be written down and shared.

Marbella Times: The transformation of the bread tree from a life-giving force to something that needed to be destroyed adds a powerful layer to the story. What inspired this darker turn?

Amely Grimmson: I wanted to explore the idea that not everything that starts out as good and pure remains that way, especially when dark forces are at play. The poisoning of the bread tree by Podemos represents the corruption of something sacred and the difficult decisions that sometimes have to be made to protect the greater good. It also provided a rich narrative for Prince David and his companions to grow as characterstheyre faced with a moral dilemma, and the path they choose defines their journey.

Marbella Times: Its fascinating how a single element like the bread tree can carry such deep meaning and drive the story forward. How did Prince David and the Knights role in destroying the tree shape their characters?

Amely Grimmson: This event is pivotal in their development. For Prince David, its a moment where he truly steps into his role as a leader, showing his willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of his people. His father and the Knights also face their own challenges, as they grapple with the loss of something they once cherished. Its a story of courage, duty, and the bittersweet nature of heroismsometimes, doing whats right means letting go of what you love.

Marbella Times: Your world-building in Mythnia is incredibly detailed. How do you balance your creative writing with your profession as a veterinarian?

Amely Grimmson: Its definitely a balancing act! My work as a veterinarian is demanding, but it also provides me with a unique perspective on life and nature, which I often incorporate into my stories. The creatures in Mythnia, for example, are influenced by my knowledge of animal behavior and biology. Writing is a creative outlet that complements my professional lifeits where I can let my imagination run wild.

Marbella Times: That blend of reality and fantasy truly shines through in your work. Looking ahead, what can fans expect from your upcoming book, Rage of the Awakened Dragon?

Amely Grimmson: Rage of the Awakened Dragon is a thrilling continuation of the series, where Prince David and his friends face their greatest challenge yet. The story dives deeper into the mysteries of Mythnia, with new characters, intense battles, and, of course, the awakening of a powerful dragon that threatens the very fabric of their world. Its a story of courage, friendship, and the fight between light and darknessone that I hope will captivate readers from beginning to end.

Marbella Times: It sounds like an epic adventure! Finally, what message do you hope readers take away from your books?

Amely Grimmson: At the heart of my stories is the message that even in the face of overwhelming odds, there is always hope. I want readers to believe in the power of friendship, bravery, and kindness. No matter how dark things may seem, theres always a way forward, and its the connections we make with others that light our path.
